Things I Learned Last Weekend |
My Nana (who I remember as a music teacher and maker of grated apple with icecream and whom Young Ata found much too overwhelming a personality to be comfortable with) was, as a 20-something year old, known as the best horse breaker in her town.
Cousin J hasn't spoken to Cousin C in years, although Uncle D claims he saw them talking in the kitchen. AM maintains that they stayed on opposite sides of the room all afternoon. No-one knows why they don't talk.
Ata is a Fire Snake and a Jack of Spades. Or was it a ten of Spades? Pretty sure it was a Jack.
Nana used to play basketball.
One of Ata's extended family may also move to London next year.
If one is dining at Imperial Kingdom, one must have the snow pea shoots with garlic. They are excellent.
Nana's favourite colour was pink.
Ata has a fifteen year old second cousin who looks like she could be a lingerie model. Or a hip-hop video clip girl.
Ata's only male first cousin still looks like MLB#1.
The aunt Ata liked most as a child has become the aunt Ata feels least able to relate to as an adult.
Around her Melbourne family, Ata feels as though there is an undefined standard that she is supposed to conform to... if she could only figure out what it was they expected from her. |
